14-year-old businessman from London, Ontario,
Canada invited to open the International IT Forum in Nanhai, China (The
Model IT City of China)
May 22, 2002, London, Ontario, Canada - Keith Peiris, the 14
year old President of Cyberteks Design in London, Ontario, Canada has
accepted the invitation to open the International Information Technology
Conference, scheduled to be held on June 1, 2002 at the Nanhai Model IT
City in China.
The 14 year old will cut the ribbon to open the conference followed
by a 40-minute keynote speech on E-Commerce presented to thousands of
delegates from around the world. President Jiang Zemin of China proclaimed
the Nanhai City in Southern China as the Model IT city in China for their
initiatives on various high tech programs.
Nanhai is a city of long history, existed as a county since 214 BC.
It is located in the middle of Guangdong province, closer to Hong Kong
and bordering on Guangzhou. It exercises jurisdiction over 20 townships,
and has a population of 1.05 million permanent residents and 630,000 temporary
comers. There are over 400,000 compatriots from Hong Kong and Macao.
With stretches of fertile plain, crisscross rivers, mild climate and
plentiful rainfall. The infrastructures are well planned, commercial economy
is vigorous, and every social cause goes ahead healthily. In last couple
of years, the overall strength of the city ranked 3rd in the top 100 counties
in China. It is one of the most popular cities for investment. The 250
administrative villages of the city, over 100,000 businesses, all primary
and middle schools are connected by Fiber optic communication. Nanhai's
GDP and financial revenue have increased 12.4% and 27.5% respectively
for 5 years.
This is Keith Peiris's 4th visit to China in 15 months. In February,
2001, he was part the Team Canada Trade Mission to Beijing, Shanghai and
Hong Kong, led by the Prime Minister of Canada. He also represented Canada
at the APEC Young Leaders and Entrepreneurs Forum (for CEO's under 40
years of age) in Beijing and Shanghai in July, 2001. Keith was also the
keynote speaker at the China Hi-Tech Fair 2001 in October, 2001 held in
Shenzhen, China.
